The famous Santa Cruz Basilica and St.
Francis Church ( Popularly known as Dutch Church where the mortal
remains of the famous Portuguese navigator, Vasco da Gama, lie
buried!) and the Cochin Bishop's House ( herself an excellent
example of 16th century architecture!) with the now
famous and much frequented Indo-Portuguese Museum within its
precinct are historic monuments within walking distance of Casa
Linda. Just three kilometres to the east is Mattancherry where
you will find the old Synagogue, the Dutch Palace ( now, a museum
) and ever so many emporia of antique items and art and craft
materials and shops selling spices!
Just across the channel from Fort Cochin the Church of Our Lady of
Hope, also an historic monument, is visible. The interior of the
Church is decorated with sixteenth century Portuguese art and
craft materials in wood, like statues, background curtains to the
altars, chalice-shaped pulpit and so on exquisitely carved with
figures of cherubs, decorative designs and painted in the now not
so much known vegetable dyes of those ancient days! Just twenty
kilometers to the north by road is the much sought out Cherai
Beach.
And Casa Linda? She is on the main road at a very convenient,
quiet and scenic spot! Under her roof you find relishing
relaxation in a soft, sober, serene and sweet homely atmosphere.
And around you find concerned, courteous and helpful hands to see
to your needs, your satisfaction and your enjoyment and thus to
make sure your stay in Fort Cochin is really memorable!
